10 Questions with Miller Boys Vintage Toys

02/02/2026
Sometimes all you need to have fun is a basic object, space and curiosity. Suzanne Miller, founder of Miller Boys Vintage Toys recalled how she engaged in imaginative play and noted how her sons utilized everyday objects for their own entertainment. Thus began the journey of Miller Boys Vintage Toys.

Miller established the California-based company in September 2021 and officially launched it last July. Miller Boys Vintage Toys will make its first trade show appearance at Astra Marketplace & Academy this June.

The company’s catalog of 67 products, designed for newborns through age 6, encourages hands-on play, creativity and early learning. Offerings include wooden rattles and teethers, vehicles and airplanes, ABC and personalized name trains, finger puppets, magnetic puzzles and learning tiles, stackable puzzle trucks, baby mirrors and onesies.

“At the core of Miller Boys Vintage Toys is a belief in slowing down, playing with intention and creating toys that invite children – and parents – to reconnect with the joy of simple, meaningful play,” Miller stated.

Miller went on to explain what goes into crafting products, the central part her family plays in the company and how ordinary toys can become extraordinary.

Your family – especially your four sons and father – have inspired you to create toys. How have they inspired you?

My father had a gift for turning everyday moments into adventures. Through storytelling, he showed us how to see beyond the obvious and find magic in simple things. I’ve tried to bring that same spirit to my own boys, who can spend hours immersed in imaginative play – either together or on their own. That sense of wonder and creativity is at the heart of everything we design.

What factors do you consider when you design a toy?

We focus on durability, safety, sustainability, and timeless design. Every toy is created to spark imagination, encourage open-ended play and stand up to years of use – both physically and creatively.

My earliest designs began as simple, hand-drawn pencil sketches – initial concepts focused on form, function and how a child might interact with the toy. Those early sketches eventually evolved into some of our foundational products, including the stackable puzzle truck and our magnetic puzzles. They helped establish the visual language and play philosophy that still guide our designs today.

The design process has since grown into a collaborative effort. Our team now includes product design engineers, artists and skilled woodworkers, and I remain closely involved at every stage. From the first concept sketch to the final production details, I provide hands-on input to ensure each toy stays true to our values of quality, creativity, and timeless play.

What materials do you currently use and where are they sourced from?

We use sustainable hardwoods such as maple, birch and oak, responsibly sourced within the United States.

Our Magnetic Learning Tiles are a customer favorite. This Montessori-inspired toy supports both independent discovery and collaborative play, helping children build fine motor skills, language development, problem-solving abilities and pattern recognition – all in one beautifully simple product.

Our natural wooden and silicone teethers are also very popular. Wood’s natural antimicrobial properties, combined with thoughtful details like organic cotton drawstring storage bags, make it a trusted choice for parents and caregivers.

What’s your newest product? How often do you release new products?

We’re currently developing a natural, single-piece wooden rattle designed to engage babies through texture and sound. We’re also experimenting with vibrant, non-toxic wood dyes for our wooden vehicles and testing modular wooden race tracks made from large, interlocking puzzle pieces. We release new products thoughtfully, prioritizing quality and purpose over quantity.
